Gun Fitting

Adam is renowned for his expert gun fitting ability, working with individuals of all abilities and also some of the world’s greatest gun makers to advise on gun fit and stock shape. He also offers gun fitting training to several renowned shooting schools, both in the UK and internationally

Gun fitting has become a key part of the Calvert Sporting ethos. Along with good technique and gun mounting, it forms part of the core foundation which we believe is vital to maximise your shooting performance.

The Gun Fitting Process

1. Understanding how you shoot

On the day of your fitting, your initial discussion will focus on your specific requirements, such as whether the fitting is for an existing gun or a new one. Adam will then ask a series of questions to gain a thorough understanding of you and your shooting style, followed by an eye-dominance check.

Having watched you shoot, either with your existing gun or the try-gun, Adam will assess exactly how you mount and shoot the gun, as well as gaining associated background knowledge on you and your shooting style.

2. Configuring the try gun

Using the try gun, which is completely adjustable to accommodate all body shapes and sizes,  Adam will be able to gather the correct dimensions for you and your style. You will be asked to put on your cold weather jacket, to make sure you can still mount the gun correctly.

3. Trialling & fine tuning

Once this process has been carried out, you will have the opportunity to shoot the try gun at various targets – to check you are confident with the fitting. More importantly, we then move on to shoot it at a pattern plate, to fine tune those measurements and ensure the correct impact point has been achieved.

The final step is to help you select the appropriate grip shape and take precise grip measurements tailored to your needs—an often overlooked aspect of a gun fit.

4. Post gun fit

Should you wish to make alterations to an existing gun, we are more than happy to take it to one of our trusted gunsmiths and provide a quote for the necessary work.
