Shooting Ground Instruction

There is no one system that suits all people.  Unlike many instructors, Adam’s philosophy is that it is crucial to tailor your shooting lessons/instruction to you and your goals – be it clay or game shooting.

As a result, at Calvert Sporting the team use a combination of basic techniques, centred around good gun mounting in conjunction with good gun fit.  Mounting onto a moving target sounds simple enough, but there are few in the shooting field who can accomplish this without proper guidance.

During their shooting lessons, Adam & his team also adjust the technique depending on the type of game being shot, so a shooter on a grouse day is likely to use a different method from when he is shooting a high pheasant.

The shooting ground is the perfect place to hone these skills, so they become subconscious and as a result feel natural once in the field.

Adam teaches from multiple locations in the UK, to  include Holland & Holland shooting ground,  Bisley Shooting Ground and Purdey at the Royal Berkshire. International locations include, but are not limited to, the Dominican Republic, Florida, Texas and California.

Shooting Instruction: What Should I Expect?

On the day of your booking, you will meet at the pre-arranged location, where you will discuss any specific area you would like to work on, your style, experience and what you wish to achieve so that your session can be tailored specifically. You will then go onto the ground to work on the above.

After your session, Adam will offer you some recommendations, be it some areas to practice at home or how best to implement what was covered during your session

FAQs

Adam & his team teach from many of the UK’s top shooting grounds, including Holland & Holland Shooting Ground, Purdey at the Royal Berkshire Shooting School and Bisley. Each shooting ground is different – so we’ll first discuss your goals and requirements, before suggesting the most appropriate location.

For the experienced shooter, depending on the time of year and weather conditions, wear what you are most comfortable shooting in. You do not need your plus 4’s and a shirt and tie! But do wear your shooting coat/waistcoat etc. You will also need head-wear, eye and ear protection but these can be provided.

For a novice or first-timer, dress for the weather – sensible footwear such as walking boots or wellingtons will be fine!

Please bring your current gun(s) and glasses if you wear them for shooting. We can provide a gun and cartridges should you wish, or you can bring your own cartridges, but please note that these must be FIBRE WAD.

Each session is 2hrs in length.

No, we can provide a suitable gun for you to use if necessary. At the time of booking, we will ask your experience and what gauge you have shot previously, or if a beginner your instructor will have a range of suitable guns for you to try.
